Hello and welcome to the Year 5 Avengers class page!

Our class strives to demonstrate the 9 core behaviours under our 3 core values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience.

In our English work, we develop our reading and writing skills through the use of high-quality texts, incorporating poetry, drama and grammar. Enjoyment of reading and a love of books are encouraged through individual and whole class reading activities, and the children are encouraged to read at home, too.

In Mathematics, we deliver a focussed curriculum building on our fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills in all aspects of maths including number, shape, space and measure. We work practically using a variety of concrete apparatus and we practise working alone, in partners, in small groups and as a class to improve our numeracy skills and relate them to real-life situations.

Our afternoons include: Science, History or Geography, Design Technology or Art, R.E and PSHE and these subjects are taught through an enquiry approach and a key question as a focus. More information on these can be found on the ‘medium term plan’.

The children also have weekly sessions of Music, Computing and P.E, on the following days:

Music lessons are on Wednesday.

PE lessons are on Tuesday and Thursday.

Computing lessons are on a Thursday

As well as whole class reading lessons, your child will read an individual reading book in school with an adult, and then bring it home to continue to read at home, too. This book should be brought to school every day. Your child is encouraged to read at home if possible.

Homework will be given on a Monday to be completed by Friday.

As a school we use the app Class Dojo to help keep us connected. Please continue to use this app and check it regularly for updates.
