Welcome to the Justice League!

We are Year 4 superstars and we love learning new things!

This term, we are very excited to be learning all about the ancient Egyptians and we have already learnt about how they mummified people when they died! We even had a go ourselves by mummifying a fish!

Our teacher is Miss Cooper and we are supported by Miss Gill every morning and Mrs Simpson twice a week. Mrs Simpson also teaches us RE and PSHE every Thursday afternoon when Miss Cooper has her planning and preparation time.

This year’s topics

This year, we will base our learning around the following half-termly topics (a history focus for the 1st half-term and geography for the 2nd):

  • Ancient Egyptians (Autumn Term 1)
  • Rainforests (Autumn Term 2)
  • Anglo Saxons and Scots (Spring Term 1)
  • Energy and Sustainability (Spring Term 2)
  • Vikings (Summer Term 1)
  • Land Use and Settlements (Summer Term 2)

Homework

Homework will be set weekly via EdShed. All children will be set a weekly spelling task on Spelling Shed in line with the stage that they are working at along with a weekly Maths task on Maths Shed. These can be accessed on a range of electronic devices. Please let me know if your child has difficulty accessing these so that provision can be made in school. Dojo Points will be awarded to those who complete tasks along with special certificates each half term. Homework will always be set to reinforce learning within class so that children should be able the confidently access this at home independently. Spellings will be tested weekly in class on a Thursday.

In addition to this, children are expected to read three times per week and have this documented in their reading record. This should include the date, page numbers that have been read and a signature of an adult. Please note, if your child has been identified for the ReadWriteInc programme then no reading books will be sent home for the first four weeks. Updates on this will follow.

PE

PE lessons will be taught on Wednesday afternoons by our class teacher and by Mrs Holliday (a specialist coach) every Friday morning. Please can you ensure that PE kits are in school for these days and ideally a water bottle too. Please ensure that these are clearly named to help your child to identify their belongings. Children are more than welcome to leave these in school on their pegs. If your child cannot remove their earrings independently, please ensure that these have been covered with tape in line with school policy.

Punctuality and Attendance

It is vital that all children come to school organised and prepared for their day. Punctuality is key as learning starts from 8.40am – children complete a morning challenge each day. This not only supports their learning but helps children to feel settled and ready for the day ahead.

Your child’s success in school is supported by an effective home-school relationship. Please note that messages can be sent to me directly via our Class Dojo page. These will be acknowledged as soon as possible, but please note that an instant response is not always possible.
