The Guardians of the ‘Caldew Lea’ Galaxy

Year 5 and especially Year 6 can be viewed as the most vital years in a child’s primary education. As we look forward to their upcoming adventure at secondary school, the children will be acquiring lots of new skills and learning in order to prepare them for their next challenge. As ‘Guardians of the Caldew Lea Galaxy’, they have really risen to the challenge of being role models for the rest of the school, continually demonstrating our 3 R’s.

It is vital that the children come to school organised and well prepared for their day. Punctuality, appearance and attitude towards school life are a must and important to demonstrate expectations for the rest of the school. Additionally, greater responsibility needs to be taken by the children of their belongings, including any equipment and PE Kits. Allowing them to take this responsibility is great practice for later life.

When the children arrive from 8.40am, they will complete a morning task in order to prepare them for the rest of the day. It is important that they arrive promptly to limit the eventuality of missing any of the important learning that happens in Year 6.

Homework will be given to the children every Monday; this primarily include spellings which need to be practiced within sentences. Additionally, there will be Spellings, Maths and SPAG activities set on Spelling Shed for the children to complete. We would also love the children to read three times a week.

Our PE days are Monday and Friday. The children need to wear an appropriate kit on these days which can be kept in school, appropriate for both indoor and outdoor sessions.
