Welcome
Welcome to Early Years. We have two classes in our unit. Paw Patrol class with Mrs Lane and PJ Masks class with Mrs Morgan. In Early Years, all staff are committed to making sure the children are settled, happy, having fun and learning lots along the way.
We are lucky enough to have both indoor and outdoor areas for the children to access. These areas are set up with fun activities using exciting resources which allow the children to learn new skills and develop their independence in an enjoyable and stimulating way. We have both adult planned activities and activities that follow the children’s interests. Everyone learns best when they are excited and interested in the activities.
The children take part in English, Maths, Phonics and a Topic activity daily. We also focus on gross and fine motor skills to develop movement through PE and funky finger activities. All children in the Early Years Unit take part in a weekly PE lesson. Our PE day is on a Friday. The children love our daily dough disco which allows them to have fun while strengthening the muscles in their fingers to get them ready for writing.
We love stories in Early Years. One of our favourite things to do is sit down and share a story together. We also use high-quality texts in English as a hook to get the children excited and engaged. Improving the children’s vocabulary is something that we work on throughout every area of the curriculum and the children love to share our new WOW word of the week!
We deliver daily RWI phonics sessions to develop the children’s understanding of the sounds that they can hear and recognising what the letters look like. This knowledge will help to develop their reading and writing skills.
Our aim is to create an environment where children show curiosity about the world, feel safe to explore and take risks and have smiles on their faces.
As a school we use the app Class Dojo to help keep us connected. Please continue to use this app and check it regularly for updates.
